MMR basics
With all of the recent scare stories, many parents can find they don't have the chance to ask the basic questions about MMR - like why and when their child needs to have an MMR jab.
MMR basics gives you the facts about MMR and the MMR jab (s) as well as helpful advice about the whole immunisation schedule and how a vaccine works.
What is immunisation?
Immunisation is a way of protecting ourselves against serious disease. Once we have been immunised, our bodies can fight those diseases if we come into contact with them.
An immunisation programme protects people against specific diseases by reducing the number of people getting the disease and preventing it being passed on.
With some diseases - like smallpox or polio - it is possible to eliminate them completely.
The Single MMR Jabs
The Children's Immunisation Centre was one of the first organisations to offer single MMR jabs (separate single MMR Vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations) to children in the UK.
Since 2000 we have successfully vaccinated many children (given them single MMR Jab) with single MMR Vaccines whose parents had concerns regarding the safety of the MMR jab offered to them by their NHS GP's.
It has always been our policy to have doctor run Single MMR Jab clinics during which parents have ample opportunity to discuss their concerns about MMR and single MMR Vaccines and to address the needs of each child individually.
We remain committed to sourcing all our Single MMR jab / single MMR Vaccines from internationally recognised manufacturers.
